Heartland Alliance International has produced two new short films as part of the Rainbow Welcome Initiative. The videos debuted online this week. The are both moving and educational, designed to inform allies about the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people resettling in the states, but also offer messages of support to those resettling themselves.
The films explain how LGBT people resettling in the United States are met with new challenges and obstacles, both as refugees and as members of the LGBT community. The first film, “In Our Voices: The Journeys of LGBT Refugees,” highlights the courageous stories of a transgender refugee from the Middle East and a lesbian asylee from Central Africa.
In the second film, “We’re All in This Together: Refugee Allies Speak Out,” we hear from Iraqi, Bhutanese, and Nigerian refugee allies who passionately support their LGBT brothers, sisters, and neighbors and call on their fellow immigrants to do the same. It is a groundbreaking and important message.
Both films were produced for the Rainbow Welcome Initiative with the support of the Office of Refugee Resettlement. Please share widely.
